Steve's refereeing career started at 13 years of age. In 2005 some 8yrs later he had been promoted to the National List of assistant referees. In 2007 he stepped up to the National List of referees.
In the 2008/2009 season Steve took charge of 22 games, in which he showed 58 yellow, and 4 red cards.
Of those 5 yellows and 2 red cards came in the Millers game at Macclesfield, with Fenton and Sharps being and booked, and Sharps getting a red in the last minute of the game.
The Millers secured a 2-1 victory that day with goals from Mark Burchill and Dale Tonge.
