200/1 to win league!
Long-term financial backers of the Bookmakers Benevolent Fund will have noticed that the bookies don't think much of our chances of survival let alone having the gall to suggest that we might win something. The odds on the Millers winning "The Championship" (do I not like that title, as old Turnip Taylor would say) are in the 250 to 1 bracket with most of them reckoning that we are the worst team in the league.

A major insult you would agree, but let's get this into perspective. We aren't going to win anything, you know that, I know that, and so do the pundits and bookies. So it doesn't really matter what the odds are as long as they are high. Is there really anybody out there that will put money on the Millers to win The Championship (arrgh)?

But we are not alone (cue X-files music), when you look at the other divisions the outcome of the forthcoming season is basically a done deal. The Prem is a 3 horse race, as is The Championship (grinds teeth) and leagues 1 and 2 for that matter. So we have about a dozen teams with any real hope of success, the rest are just making up the numbers, or so the bookies tell us. As I've never met a poor bookie then I'm inclined to believe them.

Odds on winning apart, as a long-term Miller my expectations have stayed roughly the same. Yes I understand that we won't win it but I still expect the team to play as though they can win it. It's a strategy that's worked for Ronnie, Brecks and the Millers before so I'm hoping that they do it again and ram the long odds down the bookies throats.

As a final betting comment, how about this one. Try to get a bet on Rotherham, Barnsley, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday all having new managers before the end of the season. I reckon you will get shorter odds than the Millers winning the league and every chance that you might just collect.
