Another bad day at the office - Bigrich's takeover thoughts.

Last updated : 30 October 2004 By Bigrich.....
As I sat at work, having another crap day, I recieve a text from Denti saying the takeover had fallen through. While obviously not overjoyed, one part of me felt relieved that it had.

From day one I couldnt understand why 2 people that have no assoiciation to the club apart from spending to have their company advertised on our shirts would want to buy a struggling club, thats losing an approx £20,000 a week and needs significant investment to bring it anywhere near the 21st century.

The Millers faithful reacted well to the news, and some expected a massive financial injection into the club, I'm sorry to break bad news - but this just isnt going to happen, no matter who takes over (even Freeman).

Bluddy ell, lads!
During the takeover press conference the duo announced they would be making some great announcements, and it seemed that one of the was to replace current boss Ronnie Moore with Gazza/G8 whatever his name is now and Bryan Robson.

Although the pair deny this saying Ronnies job was safe until the new year, they admitted asking Robson for advice!!! That worried me even more! So somebody who's not a fan is buying the club but does'nt know much about it and asks a former player and unsuccesful manager for advice on running a club!! Well I'm sorry but they may as well have asked Dusty ****ing Miller!!!

However, the reaction from the Millmoor crowd at the Plymouth game must have told a story! Here was a manager who's team have'nt won all season, 5 points adrit at the bottom of the league and just cannot score goals. Yet the fans love him and simply told the EM pair exactly how they felt and who they wanted in charge at Millmoor!
I swear I've seen summat like this before

On top of this, a Hallam FM online poll commissioned by Earth Mortgages asked the fans if we wanted them to take over, the result wasnt resounding, with just 63% of fans saying yes, ok its only an online poll but given the feeling about the current state of affairs at Millmoor and the desperation for change at the top, it wasnt exactly brilliant.

The Rotherham Advertiser made claims against the pair, alledging that Mike Worthington was in a legal battle with a former employer, and basically wondering if the pair had the clout to change things.

So back to today, The press knew about the takeover being off before the club did, apparently it was even in this mornings Express!! so they must have known last night!!
However at 10:45 this morning Worthington and Millington made the following statement.

We have, over recent weeks been conducting an analysis of the affairs of Rotherham United Football Club Limited, with the goal of completing a takeover of the controlling shareholding on the 1st of November.
It is with regret that our due diligence exercise has not produced the results we had anticipated or hoped for and we are unable to continue with our planned purchase of the Club.
Nevertheless, we will continue to be avid supporters of Rotherham United and as such, look forward to continuing as the main sponsors of the club through Earth Mortgages.

So what are these results they were looking for?? another case of the pair being bland and not going into any detail whatsoever.

The club hit back with
It is with regret that following Earth Mortgages' announcement that they are no longer proceeding with the purchase of Rotherham United we would like to make clear that throughout the negotiations Rotherham United Football Club have been co-operative and totally transparent from day one.

It is a major disappointment that our current shirt sponsor and prospective purchaser has now withdrawn at such a late stage.

However, the club remains in safe hands, and we will do everything in our power to seek new purchasers who can take the club forward.

While we all have our thoughts on Ken Booth, but surely this cannot be blamed on him? Although I wonder just how much he wishes he accepted the Ron Hull consortium in the summer of 2001?

As for Earth Mortgages, I wonder if it was just one big Publicity stunt? or were they just naive, and got the jitters where they dawned on how much it was

On way back?
going to cost to do it right?? OR did they realise there was never ever going to be a return on any money they put in?

So it's back to the drawing board, and the future looks just as bleak.

Will Freeman come back? rumour has it he will and the 'Tiser seems to be backing him big time!

A statement from RUST Chairman David Veal mentions the trust going back to Ken Booth to re-ignite the plans they gave a few weeks ago.

"The fans of Rotherham United are now getting fed up of being messed around
and let down. It is now time for the supporters to have a proper say in the future ownership of the Club. It is us, after all, who have the biggest vested interest.

The Supporters Trust presented a proposal to the Club several weeks ago, and this was accepted in principle. We will be talking to the Club next week to see if there is a way forward which ensures that the future of the Club is secured for the supporters of Rotherham United."

So what next?? have your say on the messageboards
