Arnason is one of only 3 senior professionals that were offered new deals by Evans as he now starts to build his team for next seasons assault on the Championship.
The midfielder was offered a deal and Evans told the PA he thinks that it will be concluded soon; "I think they are pretty close from what I gather," the boss said. "Chief executive Paul Douglas has been speaking to Arnie's people and he told me it went really well and Arnie has said the same to me so we are nearly there.
"He is away on international duty now but I'd be surprised if he's not here next season."
Arnason himself is open to staying with the Millers after 2 succesive promotions; "Of course, having helped get this team this far, I would love to stay. We'll see what happens. It's up to them. I have said I want to stay."
