Frecklington returned to the side after injury and rest against MK Dons last week and Evans spoke about having his main midfield man back in the fray, and his sides play-off aspirations.
"The plan was to get Lee Frecklington to 70 minutes and he looked more likely than any other midfield player to get us a goal, but we took him off because the bigger plan is for the play-offs", said Evans.
"It was important that we gave Lee the time and he says he feels as fresh as he did in September or October."
Meanwhile Evans added: "Preston are big play-off favourites. They have a top class squad and a manager who went through the League One play-offs with Huddersfield Town.
"But we embrace playing against teams like that so we won't mind if it's them, in fact we don't mind who it is because we don't fear any of them.
"At the start of the season we knew how tough the challenge would be and now we can't wait to know who we are playing and get going."
The Millers travel to Swindon tomorrow for their final league game of the campaign, with the boss again expected to swap a few faces around to keep players fresh.
