Major speculation in the local press and also in Cumbria has been doing the rounds surrounding McGovern in the past 48 hours, saying the 31 year-old had almost signed for the Millers.
Even some Carlisle supporters were resigned to losing the midfielder after posting on our messageboards yesterday, but in the latest twist, boss Evans told Radio Sheffield that although initial talks has been held with McGovern, he wasn't the player currently talking personal terms about a move.
"We have spoken to JP McGovern but we have other targets also. JP isn't the player talking numbers at the moment with Paul Douglas", said Evans.
The Millers boss has also confirmed he is in solid talks with three players, which includes a left back, but no names have been mentioned.
