The former Millwall man is set to complete paperwork for his move to Bournemouth this morning subject to a medical, after expressing the desire to play back down in the south.
And Evans, who was resigned to his key forward leaving the Millers, said Grabs was deserving of his chance to move back to a higher division.
The gaffer told the clubs official website: "Lewis has conducted himself in an impeccable manner whilst I have been at this football club. I believe that he is a player that in my opinion deserves to play at a higher level and I would personally like to wish him luck with his move to AFC Bournemouth.
"Bournemouth conducted their business in a exemplary manner, they are a club that I have a lot of respect for and I am sure that Lewis and Bournemouth will be a partnership that will flourish.
"In the games that I have been the manager of Lewis he has sparkled, and he leaves Rotherham United with mine and the clubs best wishes."
