Despite all his hard work along with the other ground staff, the club were pipped to the League Two pitch of the year by struggling Plymouth.
However, Fellowes is determined to make the surface, which is currently being re-laid, an even better one come July.
Dave told the Advertiser last week: “The pitch has had a season to bed in and we have had time to learn about it. It all depends upon how the weather is over the summer and next winter but potentially it should be even better.
"There will certainly be better grass cover than last time. The contractors will feed and top dress it and then hand it over to us to start bringing it on.
“In 12 to 14 days it will be ready for its first cut and we've got seven or eight weeks to get it ready for the first friendly.”
