Fenton looking to put injury worries behind him

Fenton has had a bit of an injury affected season thus far, but came back into the team last Saturday at Southend, and with Exodus Geohaghon's loan period now expired the 30 year-old is happy to be back, albeit a bit earlier than he thought it would have been.

"I didn't want to rest longer. I was gutted when I got injured the other week because I'd only just got back in the side. I tore my calf, which I thought would take four to six weeks, but I recovered in two." he said.

"I came in for 60 minutes in the reserves last week and some might say I came back too soon last Saturday but I wanted to play. I didn't have any problems and my fitness felt good.

"I did the first calf, my left one, in pre-season. The latest injury was to the right one. I'm not one who has ever had injuries in my career. I've been lucky like that.

"Obviously I've had these two and I need to do a lot of work to make sure it is not a recurring problem. I've always looked after myself. I eat things right and do the right things but I just think I've got to start look after my own body a bit more now with strengthening work and stretching work and keep on top of things.

"I have missed the start of the season and the boys have done well. I want to stay in now and help us get promotion."

Fenners looked back at the defeat at Southend and gave his thoughts; "I don't think we were in a lot of trouble. They had a few chances, which they are always going to have at home, but apart from that they didn't cause us a lot of trouble but I don't think we troubled them at all, We went too long and the back lads, and I include myself in that, were just trying to hit Ryan Taylor because he was getting so much joy off their French lad at the back.

"We didn't create enough, we didn't get the ball down enough, we didn't play enough or create enough chances or get enough crosses into the box. All round the game was just poor.

"Southend are a poor side and we should be beating them comfortably but we didn't create one clear cut chance against them, which is not good."

The league takes a back burner this week as York visit DVS in the FA Cup 1st round tomorrow; "The league is the most important thing to us but we still want to go through in the cup, As a lower-league club, the target is to get to the third round and hopefully get a plum tie and get some money for the club.

"York will be difficult. I think they are in the bottom half of the Conference at the minute. They are coming to us and we have home advantage, which to be honest hasn't been a great thing for us this year. We've got a run of home games at Don Valley and we're looking to improve our form there, so we will be looking to put on a good show and get a good win."
