Fleming admits to culture shock...

Speaking in Fridays Advertiser, Alan Knill's last signing Fleming admitted that he has found it tough in adjusting into League One.

Fleming told the 'Tiser; "Playing in this league has been a little bit of a culture shock, to be honest. One thing I have noticed is that the ball is in the air much more than it is in the Championship and Premiership."

"It's something I have got to come to terms with and something we as a team have got to come to terms with, but one thing a lot of people don't grasp is that defending is not just about the back four or the defensive midfield player or the goalkeeper. You defend as a team and you attack as a team. That's what the successful sides do, they defend all the way from the front, all the way through midfield and to the back. At times we don't do that."

"Don't get me wrong. I'm not shifting blame. The back four have been responsible at times. But I think that when we attack and defend as a team we look a good side, we did it at Brighton, Scunthorpe and Forest and Blackpool at home and we looked solid in those games. When we don't, we can looked ragged."

"Whatever league you're in, you've got to earn the right to play, The balance errs more towards playing attractive football the higher you get up the divisions. Lower down, you've just got to taper it a bit. We are not going to go Route One bish, bash, bosh football. You just have to get that balance right and that's what the successful sides do. There's teams at the top of each division who get the balance right for that division."

"Look at Scunthorpe. They were not that much better than us. We could have been three or four goals up at their place. But what Scunthorpe do more often than not is get the balance right. They play their football in the opponents' half. They stay solid and they know their jobs and they do it week in, week out."

"There is a core of good young players at Rotherham. I can't say it enough, it's just about finding that right balance of shape and style. The successful
teams do it, keep it, and they produce it week in and week out. Since I've been at the club it's been like a yo-yo. One week it's been "wow" next week "yuk." One week we do well and think we're getting there and then the next week it falls flat again."

"Since Mark Robins has taken over I think we've had a little bit more stability and been a harder team to beat on the whole, but consistency comes with confidence as well. Once you do find it then it becomes a habit. I need to lead by example. That's what I'm here for and I want to do that."
