He explained: "Last year we were playing 4-3-3 and that enabled the full-backs to push on and that's what I like doing.
"I find it quite frustrating when I can't get forward. It feels like I'm not contributing as much as I did last year. My confidence is not all there and I don't know why. Maybe it's because I'm not on the ball as much. "'ve just got to keep working hard in training and hopefully it will come. "
Sometimes you have these patches as a player. It's a chance for your mental toughness to come through. There's other players wanting my shirt and that's good because competition pushes you to your limits."
He continued: "We need to defend better as a team—that's what the gaffer has told us.
"Communication is a big thing and we must work on that. It's quite odd really because Ian Sharps and Nick Fenton are twin towers; they're great in the air. "We know what the manager wants and we've got to get more clean sheets but good defending isn't just about the defence. It starts at the front, through the midfield and to the defence.
"We need to sort it out sharpish and with the players we've got in the changing room, it's not going to be a problem.
"It's early days with Ronnie but so far so good," he added. "He's a legend here and it's always nice to have a legend back."
