Speaking to this weeks Rotherham Star, the boss explains: "We want to establish a winning culture here, we are trying to turn things round at this football club after some difficult times and there is nothing better than winning, whatever the competition.
"Who knows, there could be more difficult times ahead and things certainly don't always run smoothly in football, but I think it is important we try and win games.
"Our last couple of league games had been drawn and so I think it was important we left Mansfield with a win if at all possible. It got us winning again.
"Yes, the first round or two - certainly the first round - in this competition, seems low key. But we had some 400 fans there (at Field Mill), they didn't go there to see us get beaten and they certainly seemed happy enough at the end with the win.
"We may not win every game, nobody does, but let's win as many as we can. If we keep going in this competition then that's fine."
