After recieving some abuse from fans, Garner gave them the V sign while stomping down the tunnel after putting in a poor performance. However, the player rang up Radio Sheffield's Praise or Grumble programmer after the match and apologised and said that he wears his heart on his sleeve.

"I can only apologise for reacting the way I did, if someone can take my arms down to my side if I get subbed again, but I know i cant react like that."
"I really hope that wont be my last game for Rotherham, I dont think it will be and I really hope it wont finish like that. I hope people can see the funny side of it, as I went off I waved as to say bye-bye, I don't care what you saying to me, you can boo me, jeer me whatever."

"He then pleaded to the Rotherham faithful "People please dont read too much into it, its tongue in cheek! Basically, its me just voicing my opinion through my hand signals! I know it's not right, but I have had people say to me if they were in my shoes they would do the same. There are people out there that react like that, everybodys not perfect, and I'm just the same, I'm far from being perfect."

"I had a bad game and got brought off which I expected, and I know its for the team, I am a team player, I love being at this club, the lads are like a family I've been here that long, and the thought of not being there, which will happen some day is not a nice thought."

The FA have today fined Garner £500 and warned him to his future conduct, the club were waiting until the conclusion of the FA hearing until taking action, although Chairman Peter Ruchniewicz told last nights Magna fans forum that the club will be bringing in a policy on employees behavour.
