League Two Accrington Stanley v Rotherham United 20 December 2008, Crown Ground, 3pm |
Well, who indeed, Stanley have improved slowly during their recent tenure back in English league football's bottom tier, and will provide a stiff test at the Crown Ground tomorrow, according to Millers manager Mark Robins.
Robins takes his squad, further strengthened by the availability of strike duo Richie Barker and Dewe Broughton, to the North West hoping for the first league win in six attempts, but is under no illusions it will be an easy task.
Speaking to the Star, Robbo explained: "It will be a battle over there tomorrow and Accrington have improved on last season as well.
"They will be organised and tough to break down, we saw that when they were at Millmoor last season and beat us." Having watched Stanley in action last Friday night at Lincoln he added: "I left with 15 minutes to go and it was 1-1 and then I saw the score later and they'd lost 5-1. I didn't see that one coming!"
Robins has no fresh injury concerns with Mark Hudson pressing for a place in the starting 11 after an impressive last half hour against Darlington in the JP Trophy. Pablo Mills is still out as is Mark Lynch.
The suprising news to some is that David Stockdale is to be recalled with cup hero Steve Cann relegated to the bench. Robins said: "Steve did brilliantly and he might be considered unlucky but when you have a goalkeeper of the calibre of David Stockdale available again then he gets the nod,"
Accy boss John Coleman has injury headaches ahead of the game, mainly with captain Peter Cavanagh who has ankle damage and is doubtful.
Ian Dunbavin takes over in goal as first choice Kenny Arthur has a kidney problem.
Elsewhere left back Leam Richardson faces a fitness test on a stomach problem as does striker Paul Mullin who has a broken toe but may play through the pain.
His brother and former Miller John Mullin lines up against his old club in the home side's midfield.
