Todays Rotherham Star reports that the clash happened some time after the final whistle near the players dressing rooms. The Rotherham players backed Hibbert up who was alleged to have been hit.
The match officials were not at the scene at the time of the melee, and neither did they see the alleged spitting incident and nothing has been put in the referee's report.
Boss Alan Knill was unavailable for comment but confirmed that he was aware of the incident and was looking in to it.
Looking round the Port Vale boards, there seems to be little mention of any spitting from Hibbert, so I wonder did it really happen?
