Speaking in todays Advertiser, the 19 year old who scored his first senior goal by hitting the winner at AFC Wimbledon last Friday say's that he's now looking to build on that and push towards his dream of playing in the Premier League.
“I was top scorer for the youth team when I was a first and second year scholar at Southampton. I think I'm leading scorer in the reserves down there this season but the main thing is getting first team football. This is where I want to be, pushing towards a first team, and if I can show I can do it here then hopefully I can go back to Southampton and prove myself there."
“I have still got more time on my contract and I'm only young. The strikers down there are on fire and I'm not going to be able to get near them at the moment but if I can prove myself at this level and maybe go out on loan again and get more experience and do well, then I can show the gaffer that I'm ready for his squad."
“When you see the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, he proved himself at Southampton and has gone off to Arsenal, so Southampton isn't the worst place to be at. It is all about my development at the moment and we will just have to see how ready the manager thinks I am but at the moment all I can do is try and score goals at Rotherham.”
Meanwhile, former carewtaker boss Darren Patterson sang his praises after scoring the goal last weekend by saying; "Sam came on at Wimbledon and scored a goal scorer's goal, He's got great energy and he's been showing that in training. I think you will see a lot more from this boy.”
