Hurst is closing in on 400 appearances for Rotherham but has struggled to break in to the team this season making just 17 starts and has fallen behind Stephen Brogan and Chelsea loanee Adrian Pettrigrew in the pecking order.
The move further strengthens the link between the two clubs following a pre season friendly and Ryan Taylor's loan spell earlier in the season.
