With Jon Harley reclaiming his place back in the team after being unable to play in the FA Cup last weekend, Tom Newey finds himself on the sidelines agaig but insists he's good enough to make a challenge for the shirt.
“I thought I started the season pretty well. The manager thought I had a dip in form and brought Jon in. I had a chance in the Cup at Barrow and thought I did well and the manager decided to go with Jon again. Then I came in on Saturday against a tricky winger and I think I held my own."
“It's who the manager chooses and when Jon has got the shirt it is about waiting patiently. I'd like to be involved tomorrow but you know football, it's not down to me. I want to be playing football and at my age now, 29, I need to be. I've played a lot of games in my career and been in decent teams which have been to finals and that's what I want. I don't want to be sitting on the bench and it's down to me to keep working hard and hopefully the manager will see that."
“Jon has been a good player and he still is but I've played a lot of games myself and back myself against most people in this division. I'm just trying to compete to get my place back.”
“Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just try and do what the manager has asked me to do and try and play the way they want us to play and if that is not pleasing for the fans then that's not really my problem. I'm just trying to follow instructions.”
“It's disappointing where we are but there is still a long way to go and there's the players here to do it, It's just about getting a run of consistency. We had a good run at the start and then a blip and then went six unbeaten."
“Even though I didn't play against Crawley, I didn't think the lads deserved to lose against a team touted to run away with the league. I thought we were the better team, so it shows we can compete and we should be competing given the players we've got.”
