"I feel like I'm playing catch-up and the only way I'm going to get my fitness is by working hard in training and playing as many games as I can" Johnny told the Advertiser today.
Looking back to last Saturdays game against Shrewsbury where he play nearly the full game, he said; "It was a stern test on Saturday. Mark Wright is a good player and he plays in a position where I couldn't front him up too early in case he got a run on me. That's football. You learn. Even though I might not have looked it towards the end, I am feeling stronger."
"It is difficult playing when you haven't had a pre-season but the more games I get the fitter I'll become. I need a few more games until I can start fulfilling what I believe I can do. I like to get forward but I need to defend first and as the gaffer has said, playing behind Lawsy, I've got to learn how to play with him and learn how the team plays."
"We were very impressive in the second 45 minutes and I'm gutted we didn't come away with any points, We just didn't get the rub of the green."
Johnny got the praise of the gaffer; "He's going to be a good player. He was immense with his passing and movement, He was shot towards the finish but when you're on top with five minutes to go you're reluctant to change it." Ronnie said.
"It was a big test because their two wide men are decent at this level and they're going to cause teams problems. I don't think Johnny will be that unlucky again this season." he added.
