Keane returned to full training three weeks ago. He was in contention for a place in the squad that faced Doncaster Rovers and it seemed likely that he would be back soon to add some much-needed energy and competition to the midfield.
After more than nine weeks absence from the team, Keane badly needs a game, but the recent cold snap ruled out any opportunity of a reserve team appearance. The Millers' arranged a private reserve game against Mansfield Town at Hooton Lodge yesterday, but Keane missed out after aggravating his injury in training last week.
This is the third time that Keane has broken down in his attempt to come back from injury and there must be a risk that the hamstring injury stems from something more serious. Hopefully, the medical staff at Lilleshall will be able to resolve his problems once and for all.
For the record, the Millers were losing 1-0 to a Mansfield team which included Barry Conlon in its line-up, the game was abandoned after 70 minutes when a Mansfield player suffered a nasty injury.
