"At the end of last season I hoped I would have as many newcomers as we have signed but at first it proved difficult to get them in through the door. We were persistent and eventually we got the players we wanted and once that had been achieved I was always confident we could sell the club to them.
"The ten points deficit hasn't put them off and that was important as they had to be of a certain type that saw it as a challenge not a hindrance.
"Now we have a squad of players who want to prove people wrong while the average age has also dropped considerably, something we did on purpose. "It will be a test for us in the opener against Brighton but it will be for them
"We have to make it as difficult as we can for Brighton and we need our crowd to be behind us with a lot of noise then hopefully it will be a happy one for us all with the right result.”
