Knill has masterminded another terrific month for the Millers, including impressive away victories at Port Vale and Bournemouth as well as a resounding home win over Crewe Alexandra.
Kamara told the football league's official site: "Alan Knill deserves special praise for the way in which he has turned things around at Rotherham. Many people thought his side would struggle to get out of the relegation places all season because of their 10 point deduction so to have reached this target by October is a remarkable achievement. If the Millers carry on in this form there is no reason why the play-off places cannot become a realistic aim."
The lads head to Carlisle on Saturday hoping the usual hoodoo won't strike with the award winner usually losing their next league game. Burnley's Steve Cotterill and Lincoln boss John Schofield took the Championship and League Two awards respectively.
Meanwhile, Will Hoskins has sealed the player of the month accolade to give the club a double boost. The 20-year-old striker has netted 11 times so far this campaign.
