And despite the injury, Knill is expecting intrest from other clubs when the transfer window opens in the new year despite the club trying to tie him to a new contract.
"I have somebody ask me every week, whats he like Williamson, I always say exactly the same - hes the best midfielder in the league. We've had lots of people watch him and I welcome it because it means Willo's playing well to attact the calibre of scouts and clubs coming to the games. When January comes round we'll see if anybodys got any money to offer and then we'll decide whats best for the club and whats best for Lee." Knill told Radio Sheffield.
Asked if Knill was dreading the window opening and if it could alter our season, "No I don't think so, I honestly welcome it!! People say that come January Hoskins will go and Williamson will be gone. But these are things that you deal with and you prepare for and if they do then so be it, as long as we get the right amount for them and don't give them away cheaply then thats business, thats how football works."
"For a club like us, obviously we're not flush with money we need to do something about the income and if it means sacrificing a player then thats how it is and you just prepare for it and if it happens, it happens. The good thing is if they do go then we as coaches have done our job to get them playing and playing well." Knill added.
"What helped him was when we brought Quinny in last year, Quinny is one that likes to get all over the pitch so Lee had to take more responsibility for the middle of the park and he did that really well, and he still does. Each season he learns."
"We have to give credit to Mick Harford for bringing him in and seeing the potential he has, all we can do is help him achieve that potential."
When asked about a possible value for Willio, Knill was unable to give one; "I don't know, The value is what somebody offers and if you get two or three clubs offering then thats great because then you can work your own price."
"But at the moment for me I just want Lee Williamson to play well and to consistantly play well like he has done from the start of the season, then in January if clubs come in we'll sit down."
"Sometimes you can't hold them back, if they've done really well they deserve to go higher and test themselves higher and you can't hold them back otherwise it breeds resentment, so thats how I look at it and we'll see what happens in January."
