"The last five or six weeks have been so frustrating. I got a calf strain in the pre-season friendly against Alfreton and thought it was nothing but because of the general area it was in it couldn't have been more of a problem." Nick told the 'Tiser.
"I kept thinking it was alright but then I kept breaking down in training. It's the last thing you want in preseason. I'd just played four games in a row and was feeling good but then you get something like that and it just sets you back again. That's why it was fantastic to be back in the squad and be involved again at Shrewsbury."
"I was asked to go on at rightback and because it was not my natural position I went on and did the best I could. It was just a pity we couldn't manage to get a result. We had all the game in the second half-we battered them. Their keeper had a great game." he added.
The game saw Fenners up against former defensive parnter Ian Sharps; "It was weird playing against Sharpsy, He's a good friend of mine as well as a good player. It was strange seeing him in a blue shirt and I thought he did well." Nick said.
"Shrewsbury have made some great signings this year. Sharpsy has moved to a good side but we have good players here to replace him. There were two strong teams on show and I think we will both be challenging for promotion this year."
The onus is now on Nick to get back into the first team regularly "I want to get in, Exodus and Ryan have done alright so far. They've had some good games together and I have to be patient but I'm hungry to play. If I'm not playing then I'm not going to be happy but I'll stick by the manager's decision and if they're playing well then they're in possession and I'll have to wait."
However boss Ronnie Moore pleased to have him back available; "It was brilliant to see him playing, The calf injury has taken a little bit longer than we thought but now he's back he'll put pressure on the back four."
