A statement on the clubs official site said that the club had recieved a high number of applicants and many had been considered since Mick Harford was sacked 10 days ago.
Chairman Peter Ruchniewicz was talking to the official site and said: "It reached a point where our discussions with one strong candidate in particular reached an advanced stage. However, we are no longer proceeding with those talks and it now seems unlikely that an appointment will be made before the New Year."
The talks were rumoured to have been with Bobby Williamson however with the talks collapsing due to whatever reason it now looks like the board will be turning their attentions elsewhere.

However, with the busy festive period looming and the re-opening of the transfer window coming in January, fans are wanting a sucsessor for Mick Harford to take charge sooner rather than later.
Peter Ruchniewicz added to the official site, "We would have preferred to have made an appointment before Christmas but because of circumstances beyond our control it just wasn't possible. "In the meantime Alan is doing a good job and has already got one victory under his belt as he prepares the squad for the hectic festive period,".
