Millers a wheel that doesn't stop - Stewart

Rotherham United Chairman Tony Stewart has called on supporters to back the team ahead of tomorrow's crucial local derby against Chesterfield.

In a week which has seen manager Mark Robins placed on 'gardening leave' following talks with Barnsley, Mr. Stewart was keen to stress that the club is still in a very healthy position ahead of the visit of the Spireites.

"Rotherham United have certainly had our fair share of obstacles to overcome during the past couple of weeks, and, to be fair, have done so time after time in recent years but we are made of very stern stuff nowadays," he said.

"Throughout my years in business, I have always vowed never to stand in anybody's way if they believe they have an opportunity, in their eyes, to improve their careers elsewhere and that is a stance I will continue to take. Any position at this Club is one cog in the big wheel that is Rotherham United and that wheel doesn't stop moving, or even slow down, through a change of personnel.

"We have ambitious plans for this Football Club and those plans are still very much on track.

"Supporters haven't come to watch Rotherham United over the years because of who is in the dugout - they have come to support their team and have done so throughout generations, and I am confident will continue to do so for generations to come.

"Since arriving as Chairman at the Club we have made close to 20 permanent signings in order for us to compete at the top end of this division and look to gain promotion to League One. We are currently joint leaders.

"We are in a very healthy position - the team are strong, the Board of Directors are strong, the finances are strong, we have good staff, fantastic supporters and a great deal to be proud of and are very excited about our future, and we will continue to go from strength to strength.

"The plans are no big secret, we are aiming for Championship football in the very near future and we are heading towards the building of a new training ground and a new stadium that will help with the economic recovery of our town.

"We have one of the strongest squads that we have had in years, a group of players who are not just talented, but totally committed to the cause and in addition to the same group of players who did us all so proud last season, we have further strengthened that squad with some real quality signings throughout the summer.

"These guys deserve our utmost admiration and support, and never more so than at tomorrow's local derby fixture versus Chesterfield, at which John Breckin will be taking care of the team for the game."

With the Millers seeking the local bragging rights and a fourth consecutive league win, the Chairman called on the support of the supporters to be the tomorrow's twelfth man.

"Tomorrow provides us with an opportunity when we can all show our solidarity, that we are all together as one, so I'd ask everyone to come to Don Valley Stadium tomorrow, wear your Rotherham United shirt, let's unite, continue towork together to create a bigger and better Rotherham United than ever before."
