Millers Board Speak Out

Last updated : 08 December 2005 By Deano
Chairman Peter Ruchniewicz has stressed to supporters that the board will not take any short term cost cutting measures to put the future of the club in danger.

Appeal To Fans
Speaking to themillers.co.uk he said: "The team had a very encouraging start to the season, which against everybody's expectations has suddenly turned into a nightmare. I can assure all our supporters that everyone at the club are doing their level best to try and reverse that trend as soon as possible. Mr Plant (with reference to his letter in the Advertiser) thinks it's 'a disgrace' that we have so far not succeeded and that changes at the top are the answer. He could be right and nobody on this board would stand in the way of anybody else of substance who might wish to step forward and guarantee they could do better."

Whilst stating the objectives they have fulfilled so far the board have also attempted to provide a few answers to the specific complaints and questions drawn to their attention. The rallying call issued by Mr Ruchniewicz made earlier in the season after the Gillingham home game is very much the same now, according to the chairman: "When I made my previous comments I did not slander anyone on the radio as has been suggested by some - let alone our die hard supporters who I specifically praised. I appealed to those people of Rotherham and elsewhere not currently attending games who might consider themselves as supporters and have the club at their hearts to come back. Why should anyone let alone our die hard supporters have a problem with that? Many of our supporters didn't and have since told us of their efforts to encourage extra support. The message is the same now, we need our fans at Millmoor helping the team climb away from the relegation zone. To all supporters - help us in any way you can to come through this very difficult period in the club's history."

Board Meeting
Ruchneiwicz reiterated that Mick Harford is working under severe financial restraints and that a deal for Jamie Coppinger was lined up only for it to fall through before the deadline as Doncaster failed to secure their own loan target. He continued: "At last Wednesday's board meeting we had a long discussion with Mick on possible player dealing strategies to see what scope for manoeuvre we might have when the window re-opens in January. Clearly I cannot go into detail but we believe we can make things happen."

The club has set up a ticketing initiative for Saturday's home clash with Yeovil to try and encourage new supporters into Millmoor from schools and the wider community. They have also responded to issues raised regarding the lack of leg room in the Tivoli, and asked fans to consider the issue that it is a converted terraced area. In response to the receipt of the outstanding payment of Alan Lee money received in the summer, the board state this has been pumped into the general running of the club.
