"I think that it really doesn't have to be like that and I can honestly say I have enjoyed the last 12 months. I have seen a lot and learned a lot but I have not learned everything. The challenges here don't frighten me and the philosophy is quite simple.
"Fans pay to see good football. They'll come to watch a good side. We want a good Rotherham United side to be playing in the Championship in three years' time and we don't want people to have to catch a bus to Sheffield to see it. "We need to get the community spirit back to the club, in Rotherham, and in a stadium the supporters can be proud of.
"We realise the only way is up and there's still a lot of work to do but we are working hard to get as professional a look off the pitch as there is on it."
Stewart continued by touching on local rivals Donny and their rise to the second tier: "Eight years ago, Doncaster Rovers were playing in front of 1,200 people in the Conference. Now they're getting crowds of 10,000 and more in a smart 15,000-capacity ground in the Championship.
"We have a dream to reach the same level in three years and it's a nice dream. As I've said before, at my time of life I've no time for ten-year plans."
