A statement on the clubs website which has been released reads as follows:
Rotherham United's application for planning permission on the old Guest and Chrimes Foundry site for the Millers new stadium has this afternoon been approved by the Council.
Following a meeting today the Council gave the green light for the new stadium to be situated on the site.
Chairman Tony Stewart stated: "We are delighted that the Council have supported the application, for what is a significant regeneration scheme in Central Rotherham, which is proceeding at a pace despite the worst recession in 30 years.
"This represents another significant step towards our goal of bringing the Millers back home to Rotherham and we're all determined to make Rotherham United a Football Club that everyone in the town can not only be proud of but will feel a part of too."
