Millers News Roundup: 7th September 2005

The reserves recorded their second successive draw last night when they held a strong Sheffield Wednesday team to a 1-1 draw at Hillsborough. After trailing to a first half goal, the Millers team made all of the running in the last thirty minutes and eventually levelled in the 90th minute thanks to a good Lee Brogan finish. The team finished the game made up of many youngsters but Jamal Campbell-Ryce, Jon Ostemobor and trialist Darren Campbell all played in the match.

The Football League has confirmed that Rotherham’s game with Gillingham at Millmoor on Saturday will be officiated by Premiership referee, Andy D’Urso. D’Urso who is a professional referee on a select panel that also contains Rotherham ref Howard Webb, has reffed the Millers on several occasions recently. He was in the middle when Rotherham beat MK Dons in 2003 and also was the man who sent Julian Baudet and Martin McIntosh off at Ipswich after awarding the home side a dubious penalty and refuting claims of a blatant foul on Darren Byfield. We hope Mr D’Urso enjoys his visit to Millmoor.

D'Urso
Oh no!! We've been D'Urso'd!

Club captain, Colin Murdock will once again be on the subs’ bench tonight as Northern Ireland face England in crucial World Cup qualifier in Belfast. Murdock was an unused sub in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Azerbaijan and boss Lawrie Sanchez will name the same team tonight. Murdock played against England in March when they were trounced 4-0, which may be an indication as to why he isn’t playing tonight.

Meanwhile, the club has released updated pictures on the continuing demolition of the old main stand today. Work on the removal of the stand had to be delayed as the construction company came up against more problems with asbestos but that has now been cleared and it is expected that all the seating will be removed by the time Gillingham visit on Saturday.
