The cricket pitch has already been converted into two full-sized football pitches and subject to planning permission, the vision is for a training base alot of clubs will envy at this level.
"The template is there to give us Academy status," said Stewart. "We will be able to create a common culture across the full range of players. A lot of investment is going into the training facility and several hundred thousands of pounds have gone into the planning alone already. That's the scale of the commitment. We are not playing at this."
Commercial manager Steve Coakley added: "It's good to work with big, local institutions for projects like this because it becomes more of a partnership. At this time last year we were dealing with Keepmoat and we'd no public affinity with them. It's a public venue and we were just one of many that were renting it. When you come close to home and you're dealing with people like Corus that have an affiliation with Rotherham—a lot of their employees are Rotherham United fans—you sit around a table as friends rather than business associates.
"It becomes a more long-term, sustainable relationship that hopefully will develop into a significant two-way one."
