Defoe, who was left out of the initial squad by Eriksson, will travel as one of the stand by strikers leaving Andy Johnson disappointed with the inclusion of Theo Walcott keeping him off the plane.
In an interview with BBC Sport online, Eriksson said: "Defoe goes with us to Germany because we have to be insured about Wayne Rooney. Obviously, everybody thinks he will come back from Manchester on Wednesday evening and that's what I think. I have no doubts about it - but I can't be sure, of course, until the scan is done."
The Swede can amend his squad up until 24 hours before England's opener agianst Paraguay this Saturday (with a few of us Millers fans decending on Germany later this week!). Speaking about yesterday's game, Eriksson was more than satisfied about the 6-0 demolition of Jamaica which saw two ex Millers line up for the Reggae Boyz in Deon Burton, a second half substitute and Jamal Campbell-Ryce: "Everything is more or less perfect. The spirit in the squad is absolutely fantastic, even better than it's been before - and before it's been very good. There is a great belief that we can do very well."
