Adams, who could make his Millers debut in Saturdays game against Stevenage, believes that if his new side can secure a second successive promotion then they could hit the ground running in the second tier.
"If you look at the success the club has had over the last 18 months, getting promoted from League Two is not easy and then we're flying high in League One, getting to the Championship is the aim," he said.
"That is one of the reasons I came here because of the ambition of the club.
"With the players we have got here I don't see why we can't reach the Championship, we have got a long way to go but I believe if we carry on like we are doing then we have a great chance.
"The club is set up for the Championship, if we can get there we could have a real go.
"League One is a tough league and there are no easy games. We have to take it one game at a time and keep the momentum going and then we're in with a chance.
"There are a lot of good teams in this diivsion but I believe we can do it."
