"Steve, Paul Warne and Alan Crawford have done as well as can be expected; they've stepped into a very difficult situation.
"Managers come and go, but it's important for the players' own careers that we don't allow it to spoil what is an excellent start to the season."
With interviews for the job likley to commence next week, Douglas tried to allay the fears of fans worried the situation might affect the promotion push:
"When we've been through seasons of points deductions, we finally get a squad capable of challenging for promotion and the manager and backroom team leave, so the fans are bound to be concerned.
"They have given us tremendous support and we are repaying that loyalty by doing our best to find a good replacement for Mark."
Douglas added:"This is not a crisis. Rotherham United have been through enough in the last three or four years, and this is not on the same level.
"A crisis is when you don't know if you're going to get paid at the end of the month, or when people are working on half-wages or even getting made redundant completely.
"A crisis is when you don't have a ground and are effectively homeless. The situation with Mark and the backroom staff is unfortunate, but it is in no way a crisis."
