Speaking to the Star, Robins explained: "Richard will get some good experience. Andy Warrington has been outstanding in the first half of the season and hopefully that will continue, but should Richard be required he will be capable of doing a job.
"He's going to be a really good keeper. It is early days for him yet. He'll be on our bench and the stay with us will be adding to his experience."
Robins also revealed the deal to bring O'Donnell in has been in the pipeline for a while, and spoke about earlier in the season when the player was on loan at Buxton.
"At that time we had Jamie Annerson (from Sheffield United] but we knew we would only have him for three months. We spoke to Sheffield Wednesday then about the possibility of bringing Richard in when that three months was up, so we had that little arrangement with them, and now they have been good enough to loan him to us", he said.
Speaking about young rookie Mark Oxley, Robins went on: We just feel it's a bit early for him in his development. The intensity of the training is different to what he's been used to and he is just getting used to full-time football; we didn't want to rush him to the detriment of his development."
Meanwhile Graham Coughlan has been passed fit to play at Lincoln tomorrow after a back problem, full team news will appear later.
