Robins has snapped up nine players (Warrington, Tongue, Todd, Holmes x2, Cahill, Joseph Hudson and Harrisson), but still wants to add an experienced central defender to the mix before the start of next season.
Robins told the Star that he has a short-list and one player in particular that he wants to bring in, but, unsurprisingly, faces competition from other clubs for such a crucial piece of the footballing jigsaw. "There are three or four in our thoughts but one in particular we would like," said Robins.
Reports in recent weeks and rumours on the internet messageboards have linked Gordon Greer, Graham Coughlan and Andy Crosby with the Millers. All three fit the profile of what Robins says he wants, but all three appear to have offers from higher placed clubs. Reports from Greater Manchester suggest that Greer is in advanced talks with Oldham and he has the option of remaining with SPL side Kilmarnock, whilst Coughlan, recently paid up and released by Sheffield Wednesday, has confirmed to the Swindon press that he has spoken with Paul Sturrock, although he says he has "other options". Crosby, meanwhile, is still under contract at Championship new-boys Scunthorpe United and was a key member of last year's promotion-winning squad.
This year's squad met up for the first time yesterday at the Aurora training complex in Brinsworth, which is the Millers' temporary training base whilst flood damage to Hooton Lodge is repaired.
