Schoey was signed by former boss Andy Scott last summer and has had a disappointing first year with the Millers by his own standards.
He told the Advertiser today: "This has been a good move for me but I've not really performed quite as well as I can. I'm not too sure why that is, it's a number of factors.
“Is it because you are given less time on the ball at this level? Possibly. I have played centre-midfield a lot this season and that is a new position for me and I've been adapting to that as well. I'll have a think about it during the off season and I'll improve; there is definitely more to come. The gaffer demands hard work but wants to play football as well so hopefully that will suit me and I can play a big part next year
“The gaffer wants passion, commitment, drive and fitness. I know that all managers demand that but he knows that that is what it takes for ability to come out on top. If we can put all that together, we'll do well.
“I think he is still getting to know the players and we're still getting to know him but it's a great place to be at minute and there's tons and tons of ambition here", he added.
