Newey had flalen out of favour under previous boss Andy Scott but was recalled for Steve Evans first mnatch in charge of the club.
And the 29 year-old spoke about his disappointment of not being involved to the 'Tiser.
“I was very pleased to be back involved. It's been a long time and a tough year for me personally. Have I had a fair crack of the whip? It's hard to say. Football is a funny game.
“I've never wanted to leave the club. I have enjoyed my time here but it just didn't work out under Andy Scott for whatever reason. Some managers like you and some don't. Andy Scott obviously didn't like me, whether it was football or personal, I really don't know, but that's in the past now. There is a new manager and he has given me a game and hopefully that will continue.
“There's have been a few reserves games, but not many. I got the chance and just went out there and gave everything. I was disappointed with the result because we played some decent stuff at times but generally it is encouraging. I've played against Steve Evans' teams on various occasions, whether it be Crawley or Boston. This is my tenth season at this level as a professional now. I've played a lot of games and I've got a lot of experience and maybe he has seen something in me he likes."
