After promotion in his first season as manager in the clubs new home, Evans reflects on his sides start to the new season in League One ahead of a cup tie at Aston Villa next Wednesday.
He told the Advertiser: “So far we've drawn with Crewe, beaten Sheffield Wednesday, taken a good point against Preston, even though I was disappointed not to win, and produced an emphatic performance at Crawley last week. The scoreline didn't do us justice.
“If we win tomorrow it could put us in the top three in League One come Saturday night. With a big cup tie against Villa to come, that would represent massive progress at this football club over the last 15 months. That's why this weekend is a fantastic opportunity for us. Come the end of it we can show that Rotherham United is in A1 shape.
"This is the sort of game we lost last year,” added Evans. “We didn't deal with the likes of Barnet, Wycombe and Bristol Rovers at home and I put Shrewsbury in that bracket. I'll be reminding the players of that before they go out and I want no easing up because this is a big game for us.”
