Skipper Sharps leaves Millers

Sharps has joined Burton Albion on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent move, he was in his second spell with the Millers after gaining promotion with Shrewsbury Town to League One last season.

The Shrews would only offer Sharps a one year extension and he opted to return to Rotherham last summer as captain, after originally leaving in 2010 following the Wembley play-off final defeat to Dagenham.

MillersMAD first revealed the story that Sharps would be leaving the club earlier in the week, with Assistant manager Paul Raynor later confirming on Thursday that several enquiries had been fielded for the player.

Since signing in the summer, Ian played 27 games for the Millers scoring one goal, the winner at Exeter.

“Burton have asked the question on a couple of occasions, added to the fact that Craig Morgan will return to action shortly it made sense for me to sanction the loan move,” boss Steve Evans told www.themillers.co.uk

“Ian has been a model professional and an excellent captain for me this season; he is a man I have the utmost respect for. However, this deal offers him the opportunity to play football week in, week out something that Ian is very demanding about. I have just had an excellent conversation with him and the mutual respect between both of us was very evident.”

MillersMAD wish Ian all the best for the future.
