Chairman Tony Stewart told the Advertiser that he's impressed with the initial designs and hopes to start work on the ground come May.
The designs are for a bowl style stadium with a conferencing & banqueting facilities for 600 people and a car park for 500 vehicles.
"A lot of time and effort has gone into bringing forward the best possible scheme for Rotherham United. We had 12 companies competing, then eight, and now four. We've given them a brief for a dome-like design with a minimum of 12,000 seats, three floors of facilities in the main stand and to meet our requirement for an iconic structure with the best acoustics, lighting and viewing positions for spectators." Tony said.
"The designs submitted are very exciting and they will form part of a regenerated Guest and Chrimes site."
"Once the contractor is chosen, we would hope to start preparatory work on the site around March. Major construction work on the actual stadium itself would then get underway in May. Just like Chesterfield's new ground, the constructors anticipate a build time of 11 months and that is allowing for factors such as bad weather."
