Tony looked back at previous managers and compared the appointment of Steve Evans to previous managers.

“With Mark Robins, we had a guy that had just been given the opportunity and was very much new to the game. Then we got Ronnie Moore. He was a fantastic guy and a gentleman but it didn't work for whatever reason. You can look at what he has since done for Tranmere, but in his time here it wasn't happening for Rotherham."

“Then we got a technician in Andy Scott who fine-tuned the training and discipline he felt we were lacking. The only problem was that it didnt transfer into results on the pitch and the stats again spoke for themselves. It was just wasn't being delivered."

“When you look at the three managers here before, the young, the experienced and the technician, what we have got now is a manager who is doing it today. He was in the graveyard of football, the Conference, and got Crawley out with 105 points. He got them into League Two and not so long ago they were five points clear at the top."

“They sold two strikers (Tubbs & Barnett) and 50 goals left Crawley. They could still go up and for me they've done incredibly well. Steve Evans has played a big part.”

“Because of the new stadium, we had a big influx of managers and there were some big, big names, We sifted through them and we thought that the man of the moment who is doing it now is Steve Evans."

“When we interviewed him, he had the passion and the drive and lots of motivation and we were infected by that. The board unanimously believed that out of the nine we interviewed, he was head and shoulders the best one. He knows what he wants and he goes for it.”

“We want Steve to hit the ground running,” he said. “He believes, like we believe, that we have a good side and it just needs a tweak and a tuck here and there. He will bring more drive and excitement for the fans. He will be no worse off financially than at Crawley, in fact I think he will be slightly better off."

“The best compliment I can give Steve is that he feels like an old slipper. It's warm and it's comfortable.”
