Strongest defence in League Two - Tonge

Talking to the 'Tiser, Tonge insists there's no better outfit at snuffing out the opposition at this level.

"We've been absolutely solid, particularly in the last four games," he said.

"There were one or two chances maybe but apart from that we kept the opposition teams out.

"I honestly think that in Green, Sharpy and Fenners there isn't a stronger set of defenders in the league and there's a platform to build on. We've got an understanding now and we all know what we're thinking. For example, if Sharpy goes in for a header, I normally drop off, and vice versa. It's good.

"I think the lads up front can be confident that, with us keeping it tight at the back, if they keep taking those chances then one's going to drop in eventually and we can pick up points.

"The gaffer has given me licence to get forward, which I enjoy, because that's the sort of player I think I am," he said.

"With that freedom and Greeny pushing on on the other side, we're both happy and playing to our strengths. I'm happy with my form but I always think I can do better."

Speaking about his future, Wath boy Tonge, who joined from Barnsley, added: "I would love to stay here. For the two years I've been here we're been messed on. There's a siege mentality here and we all feel we deserve some success. We've all been through this together and I think we'll be better for it as a team if we can keep this set together.

"My contract is up and we'll have to sit down and talk about that. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it."
