Having being offered a 2 year extension with higher wages, it was expected that the 22 year old was ready to sign the deal last week, however Taylor has decided to not to sign the deal as yet and will see what happens.
The clubs chief operating officer Paul Douglas spoke to the 'Tiser today; "Ryan decided he wanted to keep his options open to play at a higher level in case the club were not able to achieve its ambition to get out of League Two this year. We respect that decision and we respect his ambition. We want to win promotion too and it is just unfortunate that we are not able to convince him at this stage of our certainty that we will achieve it."
"We will sit down with him again in the summer to re-discuss things and we have agreed to that already. We have matched his financial ambitions and we are confident we can match his playing ambitions."
Douglas also spoke about interest in Adam Le Fondre; "We have had clubs making tentative enquiries but they have been shown the exit door. Our emphasis during the January transfer window is not about losing our best players, it's about bringing in players who will make us stronger. Alfie is a big part of what we are trying to achieve here and we want him to stay."
