Moore was looking at strikers and plenty were mentioned with a move to Millmoor, Alun Armstorng, Neil Mellor, Lloyd Owusu, and Neil Harris however non arrived at the club.

The Millers faced a struggling Leicester team at Millmoor, and should have taken the incentive in the first half as they were the much better team, but a goal a minute before half time knocked the stuffing out of the Millers and they never got back from it.

A super goal from Dion Dublin in the second half left the lads facing their third successive 2-0 defeat. A good shot on goal was something to be celebrated at that moment.

Next was a Tuesday trip to West Ham, not the nicest away game for a midweek fixture, and again the Millers failed to score, and even failed to manage a shot on target. However apart from the attack they played well but lost the game 1-0.

The games were coming thick and fast, but the Millers just couldn’t buy a goal, things were starting to look ominous with just 8 league games gone.
Coventry away, and the Millers gained their first point out of 18 available, but again the Millers failed to take their chances, it was a case of 2 points dropped.

Mark Burchill
Then Colin dropped the Millers right in it and recalled the impressive Paul Shaw. Ronnie reacted by ringing Harry Redknapp and brought in Mark Burchill on a loan deal, but not before the Millers exited the League cup.

Despite taking an early lead through Chris Sedgwick the Millers lost 2-1 after extra time at Nottingham Forest, missing out on a derby game with Donny Rovers in round 3.

Crowds were dwindling; just over 5,000 saw the Millers next game at Millmoor against Millwall. For a change we put up a fight, the Millers conceded with less than 15 minutes to go, but a hectic end to the game saw Sedgy equalize with 3 minutes left, Pollitt saved the day with a last gasp save from Dennis Wise.

The last game of the month saw Crewe Alexandra visit Millmoor and already the game was being classed as a six-pointer. We hadn’t beat Crewe at
Millmoor for over 30 years and we got a sample of what the rest of theseason was going to be like with the Millers losing a massive game.

Mark Burchill scored his first goal for the Millers, but the team collapsed in what was starting to get a regular occurrence in the second half, with Crewe going 3-1 up.

Richie Barker scored a late consolation for the Millers, but the team were still bottom and without a league win going into October with just 5 points from 11 games.
