Groundsman Jim Davison told the 'Tiser; "There's a problem with frost under the shadow of the main stand at Don Valley and we tried to combat that by covering the area affected. Despite what some might think, there is no undersoil heating."
"There was no frost forecast on Friday so we uncovered the pitch with a view to getting straight to work on in next morning but we had an inch-and-half of rain overnight and when we came back the grass bank end of the pitch was like a lake. There was so much water it just could not drain away and the hard ground didn't help."
"To be honest, I was more worried about Tuesday's match against Darlington going ahead. Thankfully we were able to get the pitch playable and there were some nice comments."
"The pitch has never hosted football on this scale and there's a need to look at things like installing sand bands under the surface to improve drainage." Jim added.
