The Millers went out of the Pontins Cup yesterday, losing 2-1 to Leicester City. Jamie Yates scored for the Millers.

As expected, Georges Santos played in the first game of a trial period. The Cape Verde international was joined by two other new faces, Carl Ashton and Nick van Eijsden.

Van Eijsden is a winger and product of the Ajax youth academy. He spent part of last season on loan to the Dutch first division side FC Omniworld, featuring six times in their first team.

Carl Ashton is an 18-year-old centre-forward. An England youth international (he's played and scored at all levels up to under-17), Ashton turned down a year's contract (and a squad number) at Derby County last season to take up a scholarship in America.

In the end, the scholarship never materialised and he has spent this season at various non-league sides in Derbyshire, including Belper Town. A fortnight ago, he signed a short term deal with Mickleover, scoring on his only start, before taking up the offer to train and trial with the Millers.
