Speaking to the Advertiser, Stewart revealed that it would cost around £2 million to increase the current 12,000 capacity to 16,000.
Tony exclusively revealed: “We can do it in stages, from 12,000 to 16,000 and from 16,000 to 20,000, because all the foundations and everything else are in place. The height of the North, South and East stands could be lifted.
“Obviously we would have to look at it carefully, but if we had a season where we were selling out, it would force us to do it. Information that had intelligence behind it would give us the nod to make the New York Stadium bigger.”
He added: “We would like to see the average go to 9,000 and 10,000 and it is down to the people of Rotherham. We have seen a promotion and it is very important they continue to get behind the manager and the team.
“I talk to the players and the manager and you can’t take for granted what a good crowd can do. We saw it on Saturday with 11,000 Rotherham fans and I think we could have got 15,000 in."
