“I thought it was a good, open game of football, It was two teams trying to win the game. It was pretty end-to-end and a physical encounter. It felt like a league game and we went toe-to-toe pretty well. Obviously I took my 11 off after 68 minutes and it’s disappointing we conceded the goal." Warne told themillers.co.uk after the 2-1 defeat.
“Overall, I’m pleased with the performance. I’ve got no injuries but, unfortunately for me, Proctor and Williams have got a bit of a knock in training yesterday afternoon. But they’ll be fit for Tuesday night so I’ll have a full spectrum of players to pick from. I wish we’d have scored more goals."
“Our play, at times, was excellent. We’ve been scoring goals for fun in pre-season but this was a real challenge for us. They were the best team in League One by a country mile last year. We’re trying to build confidence back up for the lads and the new recruits performed really well tonight."
“It’s a pity they didn’t score before I brought them off because I felt their play deserved it. On another night we might have gone one or two-nil up. If you came as a neutral I think you’ll have really enjoyed it.”
Kieffer Moore impressed Warne; “I don’t think anyone can dispute he was a handful. He had pockets of excellence when he was chesting the ball down and running at the back three. He was a real handful from the start. We didn’t play direct to him a great deal."
“He’s done really well. He’s a committed lad, he wants to play football and he’s a fit lad. He’ll score goals for us in League One. A lot of my players have come away with a lot of credit against a very good team.”
“You’re always disappointed with conceding goals, The first one we didn’t look tight enough. The second one got stuck in the grass. We’ll look at the goals conceded but, generally, I want to go away positive about bits of our play. It shows we have put a squad together that can really compete.”
