However, Steve is positive that under Tony Stewart the club has a bright future and could rise through the divisions; "People here have been wounded in the past and I can understand the pessimism from some supporters after all that's gone on in recent years, but I am 100 per cent sure Rotherham United have a bright future." Coakley said.
"For the first time in the club's history, there's a man at the helm with the personal wealth and ambition to make a difference. I have known Tony Stewart for a while and he is a man of integrity and he sees projects through. I am more than sure that he will see this project through. This is not a false dawn. There are plans for a new stadium and training ground and we've a fantastic manager here in Mark Robins."
"I would ask where were Hull City ten years ago. Or Wigan? Or Reading? In ten years' time we could be having the same conversation about Rotherham United." he added.
Steve then moved on to the subject of the commercial side of Rotherham United and he is looking to bring the club closer to its sponsors; "Fifteen years ago, you'd set up something with a sponsor or advertiser and then it would be a case of 'see you again in 12 months time'. It's not like that now."
"Since I left school, I've had 13 years at Derby County, five years at Sheffield Wednesday and four days at Rotherham United. I do know what I'm doing and I know what people want. Don Valley Stadium isn't ideal but it's suitable and it's an exciting time to get involved."
"I suppose I'm appealing to businesses, as well as supporters, to believe. We all have different opinions on football but one common goal—Rotherham United. We must stick together." he added.
